Cohuna is a beautiful country town situated 65km west of Echuca. The town is in a farming area and provides many sporting and recreational facilities for its residents.

The school services the town, with a population of 2200, and its surrounding district. 

Cohuna Consolidated School is one of three schools in the town and has a student population of 150 students. Together with St Mary’s Catholic School we form the feeder schools to Cohuna Secondary College. The school’s provides high quality, challenging and progressive education. The school is extremely committed to providing students with comprehensive education that caters for the academic, social, physical and emotional development of all students. There is a strong focus on English and Mathematics while providing quality learning in all Victorian Framework areas. Many extra curricula activities are provided for students including sporting events, camps/excursions, spelling competitions, public speaking and a whole school swimming program.

The school has a dedicated, enthusiastic and experienced staff that prioritise student learning as their main focus.

The school building is of a unique design; it consists of sixteen modern, flexible and open classrooms. It also has a Library, Art room, Multi-purpose room and canteen. The school is well resourced and is surrounded by spacious, well maintained playgrounds.

The school is well served by an active Parents’ Club and School Council. Parents and the wider community are very enthusiastic in their praise of the school. It is well regarded and enjoys good support amongst all sections of the community. It is intended that this will continue, with the school reinforcing commonly held values and preparing the children for further education and life.

The Community

Cohuna is a picturesque and vibrant country town of 2200 people. It is situated between the towns of Kerang and Echuca on the Murray Valley highway. Cohuna is the gateway to the Gunbower State Forest and Gunbower National Park which are a mecca for people camping, fishing, canoeing, bush walking and bird watching. The parks showcase the mighty Murray River. Closer to town water-skiing is popular on the Gunbower Creek which flows through the town.

The district’s industry centres on irrigated dairy farming with high tech irrigation solutions and dairy farming being the major employers. The town has a hospital, 5 doctor medical clinic, Community Health Centre, Maternal and Child Health Centre and kindergarten. The busy commercial hub has all facilities including 3 banks and a well catered shopping centre. There are 2 primary schools and a secondary school.

Sport enthusiasts are well catered for with football, netball, cricket, tennis, golf, bowls, swimming, little aths, basketball, squash and clay target shooting clubs. Culturally the town has a dance school, and art gallery as well as a very active Lion’s Club, Progress Association and Neighbourhood House.

Cohuna offers an exciting rural lifestyle with all facilities whilst being 3 hours to Melbourne, 1.5 hours to Bendigo and 40 minutes to the cafes, restaurants and theatres of Echuca.
